| Description of Sighting | Having a dip at the beach near Swanbourne I was looking up at the sky (as I often do) and I saw a reflective object which appeared to be high in the sky. To the WNW at maybe 40 degrees above the horizon. At first thought it was a high flying plane but it appeared to be more stationary or if moving – it was very slow. I had the impression it may have changed directions a few times but as I had no clear reference it was hard to tell and as I was chest deep in the water I was getting moved a little myself. It was changing intensity in how it was lit, giving the impression it was turning and different surfaces reflected the sun differently as it turned, sometimes being momentarily very bright. At this stage I was confident it wasn’t an aircraft, but couldn’t absolutely rule it out being some sort of floating object (like a party balloon) that wasn’t drifting fast. I figured it would just go down as a maybe (an unidentified). I was watching it for about 5 minutes when I thought I had to make a dash for the beach (for the cover of my towel to stop the sunburn coming – the sun is very unforgiving in WA) and I thought if I could relocate the object I might be able to get a better perspective on its movement. So I did that, got under my towel and scanned the area to no avail for about 10 seconds until I saw it (or another similar looking object) moving in a straight line towards the SW at a very high speed toward the horizon (it faded before reaching the horizon). This movement took about 2 – 3 seconds and looked like a very very steady moving star (like a high speed satellite). Bear in mind it was a bright morning and I have never seen anything like it (and I have seen hundreds of shooting stars). If I had just seen the moving part I would have thought WTF wow. If I had just seen the reflective object I would have really wondered what the hell it was. But put the 2 together and I am stoked I finally have seen something amazing. Yes – unidentified, but really really cool. |
