Description | Object was too far away to see detail other than the lights extending on each side that appeared and disappeared. My husband and I determined it was not an airplane because it kept the same location. Stayed in same position the whole time we observed. After watching for about 25 minutes, it simply faded away in the same location. My husband, an Air Force veteran, spotted another bright sphere in the distance and he said they might be communicating due to some blinking. He is a UAP skeptic and even he was intrigued. Used Android phone to take photos. UAPSRS ASSESSMENT: Witness’s description likely recounts observations of the bright planets Jupiter (primary object) and Saturn (secondary object spotted by witness’s husband in the distance). Description of wing-like protrusions visible only through binoculars appears to describe diffraction spikes. Although these bright planets would have been visible at the time (with Jupiter especially prominent), they would likely have appeared in the eastern sky, rather than to the southwest as witnesses describe. UPDATE: Subsequent report provided by witness describes seeing the object “very high in the eastern sky from our house in St. Louis County,” which is consistent with the direction Jupiter would have appeared at the time of the observations. Images provided by witnesses are consistent with smartphone photography of the planet Jupiter under such conditions. UAPSRS assesses with high confidence that the witnesses observed these two planets during the observation period in question. |
