Description | This happened when I was in elementary school, so it was somewhere between 1984-1986. I was probably 8-10 years old. I remember the nearby corn field was cut, so I’m guessing it was in the fall after the harvest. My friend and I were playing in his front yard. It was on top of a fairly large Appalachian foothill and was in a pretty secluded area surrounded by woods and fields. I remember it was past sunset and was dark, but not full on dark of night yet. Across the street from his house was a large field surrounded by woods with a little bank of dirt by the road. So the layout was his house, the front yard (where we were), a small road, a bank or hill of dirt with wild plants growing, then the field. All of a sudden a disc rose from behind the bank of dirt and out of the field and was hovering probably about 30-40 feet above the ground. We both just stood there dumfounded staring. It was about 100 yards away. I would estimate it was about the length of a school bus. It was a dull gray. Not shiny. I wouldn’t even know for sure if it was metal. Just dull gray. The whole thing was weird obviously, but one of the weirdest parts was that it had this visible aura around it that illuminated kind of a gold or copper color light. It almost looked like smoke or fog and it moved. It wasn’t stationary. Like the edges of the glow stayed maybe 2-3 feet from the gray part, but within that foot where the glow stopped I could see it was moving like a smoke or a fog. If you have ever really seen the northern lights in Alaska full on, it almost looked like that. Somewhere between a liquid and a gas and fire. It made no noise. None. It hovered for maybe a minute, maybe less? I’m unsure as we were in shock just staring at it. It eventually started to move to the right. At first slowly, but it quickly curved away from us and…excuse my language…but took the fuck off at such an insane speed all we saw was a trail of light like you might see on long exposure photography. Gone. |
