DescriptionIn the late spring of 1981, a family building a large bonfire together in the evening near their home in New Germany, Nova Scotia, observed a bright red light hovering in the distance. After some time, the light began to approach them, revealing a large triangular object with a bright red light on the front leading corner and white lights at the two rear positions. The object hovered above the area where the bonfire had been built, slowly rotating and turning its leading edge to face in another direction. The witness’s mother was very excited by this, while at least one of the other adult witnesses, a friend of the family who was present at the time, seemed badly frightened by the object. Her fear caused the children, including the reporting witness, to cry and similarly respond with fear. The object remained visible for long enough that the family were able to call several neighbors, some of whom also could see a light over the property from their vantage point. The family and their friends were also able to observe the craft through a pair of quality Pentax binoculars. The narrator, who was seven years old at the time, described the object looked like “a kaleidoscope of turning and changing colors that obscured any other detail on craft” with colors that included green, violet, orange , yellow, and red. Observing the derails of the craft similarly elicited an emotional response from the narrator. Curiously, most of the observers had no recollection of the object departing, although one witness said she observed the object rapidly ascend when it left the vicinity.
