DescriptionSUMMARY: Former military witness observes a massive black triangular object engaging in unusual aerial maneuvers for an extended period while camping in Christmas Valley, Oregon, in 2009.

WITNESS ACCOUNT: (The following is a transcript from an audio recording the witness provided to the UAPSRS.) I served from 1984 to 1987 at Fort Hunter Liggett, which was then the Combat Development Experimentation Center. I’ve seen some strange things in my life, but nothing like what I’m about to describe.

In 2009 I was camping on a hilltop in Christmas Valley, Oregon, at a site my son and I had used for years. It was a beautiful place, elevated above the desert with juniper forest below and wide open views in every direction. To the north was a fire lookout tower on a higher mountain. That night the fire crew had already left, so it was completely dark. I was sitting by a very small campfire—just enough to keep my hands warm without ruining my night vision—watching the stars and satellites pass overhead. At one point I glanced toward the south and saw what I first thought were distant vehicle lights moving slowly in my direction. I dismissed it as maybe ATVs, even though I knew there were no roads in that terrain. I kept watching. The lights gradually got closer and began separating from each other. That puzzled me because the area was dense forest. This went on for quite a while—probably half an hour—before I became concerned. At first I thought they were two different four-wheelers moving apart, but eventually both lights became noticeably brighter.

There was a rock formation below that I knew well. The two lights approached it, one to the left and one to the right. Then the light on my right suddenly rose upward while the one on the left dipped down. At that moment I realized they were connected. I could now see a third light toward the rear, and it became clear I was looking at a single solid structure. Even though it was still four or five miles away, I could tell from its scale that the object was enormous—well over a mile across. It was moving directly toward me. I wasn’t terrified yet, but I was alarmed. I put out my campfire, turned off my lantern, and stood in darkness watching it approach. As it got closer, the lights grew brighter. The object glided silently over the forest below and then began climbing the hillside toward my position. At that point I panicked. I went to my Jeep and kept watching as long as I could. When the light began sliding up the hill toward me, I crawled underneath the vehicle for cover.

The brightness became overwhelming—like daylight. One corner of the object hovered above the hilltop. I don’t know how long it stayed there, but it was long enough for me to be completely shaken. I even called a friend and tried to describe what was happening; I’m sure he thought I was crazy, but he told me to stay calm and be careful. Eventually the light moved back down the hillside. I remained under the Jeep until I was sure it had left the immediate area. I watched it turn west and slowly move away. I observed it for another half hour as it drifted west and slightly southwest.

Then I saw it hover above what appeared to be a large ranch building—possibly a barn. The object oriented with a triangular point downward and remained there for several hours. I drove to the edge of the hilltop for a clearer view and watched from my vehicle in total darkness. At some point something emerged from the top of the craft. The best way I can describe it is a 50-gallon burn barrel. It was red and appeared to emit steam or smoke. It descended and began moving over the forest floor in what looked like a grid pattern—north, then south, then east, repeating—for hours.

During this time I contacted my son and asked how to take night photos or video with my phone. I tried all night, but none of the images came out. Eventually the object returned to the craft. Near dawn, while it was still dim outside, the larger craft appeared to collapse in slow motion and drift west toward the Cascade Mountains before disappearing.

That was the last I saw of it. Later that day I spoke with employees at the fire tower. They told me they had seen strange things in the area before and wished I had called them so they could have witnessed it too. But at the time, I was panicking. That’s my story.

Witness FeelingsWitness panicked as the object made its nearest approach, then watched with interest once the object was deemed to be a safe distance away.
Witness AssessmentWitness said several times that he knew aspects of the story seemed “crazy” when describing the anomalous flight capabilities of the UAP. Serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Hunter Liggett from 1984 to 1987, the witness said he had seen a number of incredible things, but nothing like the UAP he observed in 2009.
Additional InfoWitness was able to verify his military service.
